Potatoes: A Simple Ingredient With Plenty To Explore
We have started building our potato section on MrSoupandSalad.com.
Potatoes are one of those everyday ingredients that many of us already know and use. They are affordable, filling, flexible, and can be cooked in lots of different ways. But there is more to potatoes than just chips, mash, roast potatoes or baked potatoes.
That is why we have added a small group of potato pages to help explore them in more detail.
Our main potato page is the central place to start. From there, you can visit separate pages looking at:
1. Potato varieties
A guide to some of the main types of potatoes you are likely to find in the UK, including what they are like and how they are best cooked.
2. Potato nutritional information
A simple look at what potatoes provide nutritionally, including energy, carbohydrate, fibre, vitamin C, potassium and other useful nutrients.

3. Grow your own potatoes
A beginner-friendly introduction to growing potatoes at home, whether you have a garden, raised bed, allotment or just a suitable container.
Home Grown - Grow Your Own Poatatoes Page
Potatoes can be part of a healthy, balanced diet. How healthy they are often depends on how they are prepared, what they are served with, and how they fit into the rest of the meal.
A plain baked potato, boiled new potatoes, or homemade potato wedges can be very different from deep-fried chips or heavily loaded potato dishes. That does not mean one food is “good” and another is “bad”. It simply means it is worth understanding the ingredient and the choices around it.
The aim of this potato section is to make that easier.
Whether you want to choose the right potato for a recipe, understand what potatoes add nutritionally, or try growing your own, these pages are a good place to begin.
We will be adding recipes based on potatoes and with potatoes and our background information pages provide some of the useful information about potatoes for more information.
